Gnasher’s Grimoire
Notes, the thread, and the recap
Four places words live in the Grimoire: the notebook you type into mid-sentence, the dossier with a face for the table and a side that never leaves your screen, the thread that runs between you and their phones, and the recap they keep afterwards. This page walks all four.
The notebook
One keypress, because a thought you have to go looking for a menu to write down is a thought you lose.
- Press N.
- Type what just happened. Enter saves it; Shift and Enter together give you a new line.
- Paste or drop a picture on the box to keep it in the note.
- Find it again later by pressing Space and typing any word of it.
Honest limitsA note holds up to two thousand characters, which is a paragraph and not a chapter. Notes ride the Chronicle and your .keeper backup, so they leave with everything else when you move to another computer.
What they see, and what you keep
One record with two halves, and only one half can travel.
- Press Everything on the bar and choose Theater, then find Packets.
- Type a name in Build from your Grimoire and it builds the dossier out of what you already own, splitting it in two by itself.
- The top half is headed The face: this is what they get: a name, a line under it, what kind of thing it is, what the table is allowed to know, and a picture.
- The box underneath is headed Yours only, never sent: secrets, stats, what the person really wants.
- Press Send it and only the face travels.
Honest limitsThe private box is never sent, and it is left out of the handout faces shown on the second screen too. A packet that carries private notes says so on its own line in the list, so a glance tells you which of them have a second floor under the first.
The Table Thread
Words and dice between your screen and their phones, kept in order, and kept afterwards.
- Press Everything on the bar and choose Thread.
- Write a post to the table. Bold and italics carry.
- Put a roll in brackets, a d20 with a bonus or a handful of dice with a damage type, and it is rolled here as you post.
- Press Post. Replies come back from their phones and land under it.
- Freeze the thread when the night ends, and Export the thread keeps it as a file.
Honest limitsBold and italics carry; anything richer is written out in plain words, on purpose. One grammar is the whole point of a wire that has to work on every phone at the table, including the old one somebody borrowed.
The recap the party keeps
Read it over first, then hand it to them, and it stays on their phones.
- Press Everything on the bar and choose Chronicle, then find Session recaps.
- Press Import a recap and pick the player copy.
- Read it over in the box and press Save to keep the words as they stand.
- Press Publish to the table. It lands in every paired Satchel and stays there as campaign history, readable a week later with nobody at the table.
- Take back removes it from their phones again.
Honest limitsThe DM copy of a recap is refused at the door, on purpose: the player copy is the one that goes to players. A recap carries ten thousand characters and the tail of a longer one is left off, with a line saying so. Your players keep the newest twenty and so does your binder: import a twenty first and the oldest is let go and taken back off their phones. A phone that was asleep gets the recap when it wakes.
The Chronicle
What your table did in earlier chapters, remembered across books rather than trapped in one.
- Press Everything on the bar and choose Chronicle to read what earlier chapters left behind.
- In the Dice tray, press Chronicle to export the night as one page: the rolls, the battle, your bookmarks, and the notes you wrote in the last eighteen hours.
Honest limitsThe export is a page you can hand to anybody, and it is a page rather than a save. The binder is what remembers; the page is what you share.
And back into your own notes
The one thing that goes the other way.
- If you brought a folder of Markdown notes in, Chronicle to vault writes tonight's Session Chronicle back into that folder as a note.
- Press the import control again after you edit those notes, and the Grimoire re-reads them.
Getting a folder of notes in, and everything else about your own books, is its own walkthrough: your own books, step by step.
Honest limitsIt re-reads your notes when you press the control, never on its own, so nothing changes under you between sessions. Writing the Chronicle back is the one direction that goes outward, and it writes one note, nothing else.
Write one line mid-sentence
The test for the notebook is whether you can use it without stopping talking. One keypress, a line, Enter, and back to the table. If it breaks your flow, tell me and I will fix it.
