A Free Solo Adventure Keeper · Long Island Dungeon Master
The Procession
Every fire in the city is out tonight, and you are carrying one. No Dungeon Master needed.
One file. Every entry links to the next, the page shows the station you are standing in, and the d8 rolls right there if you want it to. Offline, no account, yours to keep.
Or take the print PDF or open the PDF in your browser firstNine pages, with the whole d8 on one page and a walker's sheet on the last one: your name, your street, the six stations in order, and the one rule for the die.
Thaxted burned three generations ago, and every year on the eve of the Kindling the wardens go round with the water carts and drown every hearth, forge, oven and lamp inside the walls. Then the whole city walks the old route in the dark to the Well of the Year, where the new fire is struck off flint and steel in front of everybody. The Procession is a solo adventure for one fifth edition character of 1st to 5th level, and nobody runs it for you. You walk that route with a live coal in a clay pot under your coat, because the old smith at the sign of the Ram is searched first every year and his grandfather's fire has never once been out. Six stations, fifteen entries, five endings, played in something under an hour. There is no fight in it and nothing is written down: the station you are standing in is the whole of the state. Free to play at your table under CC BY 4.0.
d8, 1. The blind man. He walks by his daughter's hand with his nose up, and he has been telling her for a hundred yards that somebody near him has been at a fire. Subtract 4.
d8, 5. A woman with a sleeping child. Her arms are full and her eyes are on the back of the child's head. Add 1.
d8, 8. Two men arguing about money. It started at the Yard, it is getting louder, and every ear near you is on it. Add 4.
